This weekend may in fact be the moment of truth whereby I will be putting fuel and spark in project W111 280SE 2.8. This will be its first test for life as a six. ::)
One of my concerns prior to start up is setting the oil level in the injection pump. I had the injection pump solenoid off of the pump which caused all of the oil to run out. Unlike my 230SL there is no dipstick on the pump. ???
I was told by an old retired Benz mechanic that the oil from the engine would circulate to the pump once its started. Can anyone verify this. The shop manual does not point out my concern.
Any and all help is always appreciated. ;D
Cheers

Hello Peter,
Nice car, I always loved those W111 coupes.
Yes,engine oil does circulate in and out of these later IPs. That is as long as that tiny metal oil supply line between the IP and the engine is not clogged. I always dump some oil in the IP just to make sure everything is lubed up. No need to worry about oil level, since any excess will drain off into the engine block. About a pint will keep you out of trouble. You can add it by removing the barometric compensator or the WRD.
