Title: Dash/Cowl Re-Assembly Sequence
Post by: ctaylor738 on September 20, 2010, 22:48:07
I have fallen into a sort of pattern on the 280SL project.  I do hard stuff like the rear end for a while, and then easier tasks like the wiring and the dash/cowl area.

So I have the rebuilt heater core, wiper assembly, blower, and defrost ducts in place.  I recall that the next major piece in this area is the windshield, which has to go in before the wood to get the seal to fit right.  Correct?

Thanks.

I would put the wood in first - it is very difficult to put in the piece behind the instruments with the windshield in place without damaging the dash cover.

Chuck
I agree I did mine both ways and the can be in before the windshield.  I suggest the windshield seal and windshield go in from the bottom to the top.  This will allow the rubber lip to fit without too much trouble.

If you can remove the threaded stud then it's quite easy to fit the wood after the screen is in but virtually impossible if you can't get the corner stud out.
