Have just recieved my data card from the Classic Centre and it turns out that my silver 230 Sl started life in a different colour - 181H Light Beige, brown soft top and red interior. Seems like a very strange combination to me - anyone out there with this combo and a few pics of it?

No but that sounds like a pretty combination. I have seen a red pagoda with black interior and a brown top and I thought that was odd.

Congrats from a buddy of yours. ;D
Yes, my silver painted 63 230 also started with 181G light beige (body and hardtop), brown soft top, red leather 203.... ;)
It took me quite a while until I started to like this color combo. :o Nevertheless, my car is going to be in that original colour combo again. :D
And ... BTW...
it was one of the standard color suggestens from DaimlerBenz for the 230 SL according to the little paint scheme (recommendations) booklet that I have ... from July 1963.
Silver pagodas are so common (although I like DB 180 more than DB 181);
enjoy your old/new color combination!

Achim - I think it will grow on me too. However, I have no intention of going back to that combo as I'm quite happy with my silver body/hardtop, new black softtop and red interior (the only original colour left) - even though it is indeed very ordinary :)
