Has anyone ever changes the 1/4 glass seal on a hard top?
-
No, but I once watched my mechanic change the front screen on my TR6 - he just gently removed the old screen and seal, inserted a new seal, took a piece of heavy string and inserted that into the groove, smeared the entire thing with dish washing detergent. Then he pressed the new glass into the groove while gently pulling the string out to make sure the lips of the seal grabbed onto the glass. It looked so clever and easy that it encouraged me to do the same myself on the front screen of my Willys Jeep after a rather unlucky "wonder what it would be like to drive fast through a dark forest wearing night-vision goggles-event". The fitting of that turned out pretty okay.
I'm not saying that this is the correct procedure for the hardtop quarter windows - other might have better ideas...

Hi Walterr
I did 20 years ago, if i remember correctly you put the seal on the quarter glass then lots of soap to help slide it in place, its a struggle but ime fairly sure you push it up towards the top first, then pull it down into the channel, its tough glass so dont be scared, Hope my memory is ok. ;D

Could be some useful info for you on this page:
http://www.blackforestllc.com/classic_gallery.html
- i just checked through the blackforest page and it doesn't seem to provide photos of the window installation. There's a little more information in Gernolds' hardtop restoration article in sl113 wiki:
