Title: Removing Emergency Brake Cables - What's the Secret Sauce?
Post by: ctaylor738 on August 26, 2010, 22:04:04
I have one step left in the dismantling of my 3.27 rear end - removing the parking brake cables.  I have removed the clips on the brake side, but the cables won't budge.  I have tried vise grips, but nothing wants to move.

From the EPC, it looks like the cable comes off in one piece.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Hello Chuck,

With the clips removed, the cables and housings should pull straight out. They can get badly stuck.  Apply heat to  the casting around the cable and try again.

Heat and vise grips got the left side out.  On the right side, it took heat, a hammer, and a 12 mm deepwell socket as a mandrel to knock it out.
