Title: Boot spring metal rods ?

i have a 1969 merc 280 sl and i had to unclip the long metal boot spring rods ? now i am struggling to get them back in the right position i need a photo or advice i  have had to unclip the boot springs to release the tension on the soft top hood cover but they sprung round when unclipped ? i need to know how and in what position they go as its not outlined in the Haynes manual if anybody could take a close up picture of there boot springs a photo of each side it would help me a lot to determine how the springs should be rotated :'(
