Title: Option Code 429?
Post by: Arjun on August 20, 2010, 03:42:49
Would anyone know what Option Code 429 is .  It is not listed in the Technical Manual section.

For what car? You have several options:
429           from 01.04.1970  to 28.02.1986     MERCEDES-BENZ POWER STEERING AND MANUAL FIVE-SPEED TRANSMISSION
429K          from 20.02.1998                      REMOTE CLOSING TRUNK LID
429O          from       1978                         CHOCOLATE BROWN
429U          from 01.01.1978                      CHOCOLATE BROWN

Is this option code listed on the data card for your car?

Interesting - we may have to modify the technical manual.
Has your car a 5-speed manual transmission and a VIN higher than 17927??
A 5-speed transmission usually has a 230 option code. See the recent discussion here: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=13297.0
Where on the data card is it shown, under "wenig gewünscht"?
I am also curious now how many 5-speed cars came without power steering since this code combines them.

Is the 5-speed a ZF transmission or the MB transmission.  Since the option code applies to cars from 1970 through 1986.

Any possibility that this car was a special order?

Alfred, the vin # is 19962. The code 429 is not in the rare options section but in the top right corner where the option codes start, right after 416. It is a ZF
transmission.

Thanks Arjun!
I have added code 429 to the technical manual.
By the way, what ever happened to your 250SL 5-speed?
