I spent a couple of hours putting some dash bulbs in, as soon as i changed one bulb it stayed on with no ignition ??? So i looked in the hand book, It was brake warning light, so i thought hand brake is on no problem, I was just going to put it back together but thought il just check everything, I let the hand brake off and it was still on ? so i got out shut the door and disconected the fluid level warning lights, i looked through the window and it was off, So i got back in and it was on ? whats going on i thought, then it dawned on me its a door open warning light. No mention of that in the hand book. Felt a right muppet. :-[

At least you sussed it in the end without tearing the whole car apart ;D

Can you change the bulbs without pulling the entire dashboard apart?
-
Yes you can.
The 2 bulbs for the heater/ventilation levers can be changed by removing the speaker grille and speaker (if fitted), then you have good access to the 2 pods from above.
As for the instruments, can be easily accomplished from under the dash if you have small hands and some patience thrown in for extra seasoning...

I found taking the rev counter out quite easy, i think then its not too bad to get at the rest, upside down job tho, so no hangovers .

Small hands and patience? - I have neither, but will give it a go during the winter. I remember reading somewhere (probably this forum) that it is possible to go for brighter bulbs - a part number or a link to these would be "enlightening" (sorry about that)

I was able to get the speaker grill off,but the speaker itself, coverd with a wire mesh and some black fiber, won't come out .I pulled it off the two clips nearest to the windsheild-the the other two screws were missing- and when trying to raise the speaker up the magnet won't clear the dash. I don't want to damage it or the wood bows either so I'm open to any ideas. Bill 71 280SL
