Title: Finally done!
Post by: Norm on August 14, 2010, 16:07:59
After 6 months I finally have my car back.  In February I decided to add A/C to the car.  Texas heat is just a little much for my wife and I.

Unfortunately, we quickly determined that I had bigger problem with my engine.  With very little compression indicated we pulled the head and tore it down to discover bad bearings and bad pistons.  Plus the valves guides were bad etc. etc.  I'm sure you all know how this story goes.  Anyway, after a total rebuild with new "everything" we are now back on the road.  Just in time to enjoy some of that Texas heat I mentioned above.

Here are some photos of my journey, including my mechanic Helmut Holder who has been working on Mercedes since the mid 1960's.

A few more pics.

Somewhere else I noted a comment about the ugly black plastic Bud's Benz A/C unit under the dash.  We had ours covered in matching leather  :D

That's one of my favorite color combinations.....I love parchmont interiors .  The ac unit looks good . I did that same thing in my 69 280se coupe. Good luck with the refreshed mechanicals.....

Beautiful engine compartment.  Looks like you did it the right way.  I'm sure you will be happy with the results

Great job, Norm, indeed!

BTW, you've got new pistons.
But where did you get the conn-rods?

Those are hard to come by.
Is yours a '65 or '66?

Thanks and best regards,

Achim
