Seems the pump on my 71 280SL is binding. Can anyone direct me to where to find a good used unit? Old unit says "Febi" 9200 9232 9231"
Thanks,
B.

Why do you think it's binding? Have you had it out and tried to turn the drive ? Do you have low oil pressure? Have you had it apart and there are 'problems? Etc, Etc?

Metric motors sells new ones but they are about 500.00. They install them on all their rebuilds.

Hello
As with Warren, I am curious as to why you think it is binding?
-
Apparently, the engine was run out of oil. That would make anything bind up! :o
-
The engine is being rebuilt and the tech has been able to confirm a defective pump.

Hello Bosanov,
A new oil pump on a rebuild is good to do as a rule and especially if you had a catastrophic engine failure. .
-
Thanks all. I decided on a new pump from Metric Motors. Supposedly a high output replacement pump.

Could you find out more, please, what this means "high output replacement pump" and let us know?
Is this hype or do they manufacture a different pump? ???
-
It is a different pump that bolts into the same spot. From my visual comparison, the pickup area is smaller that the original. I will take some side-by-side photos of both tomorrow and post them. Mike at Metric Motors can provide more details.
Thanks,

Here are some images of the old and replacement oil pumps. The older one with the larger pickup is on the left.
