Title: Hood hinge question
Post by: pablo_o2 on July 24, 2010, 13:58:41
Members, i can't remember how the hood hinges are placed in the engine compartiment. Is the cut away side facing the grill or is it facing the back.

I agree with pablo_02, this forum has be wonderful for putting a car back together.

My question on the hinges relates to the fact that I have no cutouts on my hinges.  If you look down on the hinge when it is installed on the car body, the "pin" is offset.  On my car, the offset pin is in the front.  Is this correct?

If I flip the hinges on the body, then I'll have to flip the "females" on the hood panel, correct?

The reason I want to know is my front hood corners are so close the the body opening, the paint has chipped off.  The fit fits pretty good when the thing is closed.  It is not the original hood, so has probably not been trimmed very well.

Thanks in advance,

Ron

Ron, that is correct. The pin is more to the front orientated. Also my corners are tight-fit nearby the pivotpoint when the hood is opened but not touching.

Move the hinges on the hood outwards till they leave just a slight gap between hood/fender when its open.

That should cure any further chipping.
