Title: Hubcap masking tool - silicone?
Post by: Cees Klumper on March 27, 2004, 15:47:34
Check this option - supposedly this plastic gadget sticks to the bare metal hubcap to be painted very tightly, thus preventing overspray, and can be used over and over:

I heard from the seller (Christian Baumgartgartner) and he makes these new. I asked him whether he would mind me listing his contact info here and on the vendor database.
Arthur - it looks like the set you linked us to is the metal version?

Actually, I had a set of these and they were rubber.  But they were hard to use and I often thought that someone could easily make a better stick-on/peel-off plastic/vinyl set ...which seems to be what you have found..
Would be nice if he gives you the OK...

Here's the email address of the seller (Christian Baumgartner) of this silicone masking tool - he manufactures these and would be happy with any inquiries:

Cees,

Thanks for the lead on the hub cap painting tool.  I wrote to Christian and ask for cost.

I got a price form Christian including postage to Norway for 81 Euro's, or about $ 95. I have ordered a set. When I have used them - I will let you know - if anybody wants to borrow.

I know now several group members will have a set. It would be great if we can borrow each others' set "when the time comes".

Rodd - can we add a forum for 'tools available for borrowing' or some similar description? Then each topic would be named what the particular tool is, and members can list what they have available or what they are in need of.

For example I have a new HAZET crowfoot 17 mm for properly setting the valve clearances on my 280 SL. Hard to find tool that I would be happy to lend to members here in Europe. Mails out in a small package so it's not too costly to send back and forth.
