Title: Connecting rods question
Post by: waltklatt on June 23, 2010, 19:36:27
Am wondering if the connecting rods from either a 250S (W108) or a 220SE (W111 sedan) are the same as the ones used in a 280SL motor.
Please let me know and I will run to get them from the motors.
Thanks so much.

With info derived from the Technical Section, http://www.detali.ru and Wikipedia (for 250S and 220SE engine numbers) the following is what I see.

Perhaps someone can verify.

Connecting Rod Part Number

280 SL (W113) = A 130 030 11 20

250 S (W108) = A 108 030 23 20

220 SE (W111) = A 127 030 01 20 and A 127 030 23 20 (Replaced by A 127 030 26 20)

Hello,

Richard is correct. 250 series and 220 series will not work.  In addition I believe there is an early and late M130 connecting rod. these rods have a number cast into their side. Try to match yours. If yours are out, post  the number here so we can work on it. .

Joe, Out of curiosity, does the late version superseded the early piece or are there two distinct, non-interchangeable parts? Thanks.

Hello Richard,

I think the oil holes are in different places and even their rod bearings are different. If I get a chance I will dig some up and compare to be certain.
