Title: Oil for hydraulic lift ?
Post by: Cees Klumper on March 20, 2004, 11:25:03
This is a bit off-topic, but ... I bought a heavy-duty hydraulic lift (to lift and drop in the engine) and I want to top off the oil - does anyone know what type of oil these things take? Is it the same as brake/clutch hydraulic fluid?

Thanks,

Hello Cees,
Most of these units take a "jack oil" available at most auto parts stores. I know ATF works in my floor jacks but jack oil should be used. Other fluids may be harder on the seals.

that Hi Cees- Lift hydraulic oil is the seme as used in farm tractors, 10W non-foaming hydraulic oil. So any farm equipment (John Deere for instance here in US) or larger auto parts store ought to have it. Regards,     -JP-
