Title: Steering Wheel Colour

Sorry to show my ignorance. I have a silver 1969 pagoda with black interior. The steering wheel in my car is black (and quite cracked). I want to replace it and I really like the white version. I think the contrast would look great, but would I be commiting a sin? Was there a standard colour combination or am I right to think the white wheel was an option on any car? Any help would be appreciated.

The ivory wheel was an option for any car, so it's a matter of personal preference. What's more, when ordered from a dealer here in the US, the ivory wheel currently costs less than the black wheel!

My 280sl was an original silver with black interior, and came from the factory with a white steering wheel. I agree the white colooks better with this color combo.

Hey Nick.

If you think the black wheel looks cracked, wait until the ivory one goes! I have ivory wheels on my 230SL (good condition) and 220SEb (cracked as they come) and think that both look great. There is something to be said for the patina of age.

I just purchased a new ivory wheel as a replacement for the one in my 250SL. The price from Benz was $210 minus a 10% discount the dealer gives for being in the Mercedes Club. I got a quote for $210 from Millers.

All of the euro 4 speed cars that I've seen have black sterring wheels. White wheels seem to be more common on 230SL's and cars with automatic trans.
I prefer the black wheels as they don't show dirt.

My '64 Euro RHD 230 has Ivory with Ivory gear knob !

Not sure if original but looks great especially against the white dash of a white car !

The center pad and horn ring are extra on these two wheels and are still available as well. Ivory looks good in just about any application, but this reaaly is a matter of personal taste. The above numbers and specs are for 1968 and newer. The earlier wheels are also available new from MB.
