Hello Shimon - can you tell us a bit more please? Does the engine stall immediately, as if you turn off the ignition when you put the gear selector in D or R, or does it sort of slowly die out? Does the engine rev up well in Neutral, or does it hesitate and can't get up in RPMs? Does the constant speed solenoid (a device that serves to increase the idle speed when putting an automatic-equipped car in gear so it will not stall) work, and is it adjusted correctly? Tell us more and we can help.

thanks cees
i will ask tomorrow.(night in us) the mechanic about the speed solenoid.the car start good and keep 8000 9000 rpm, when shift to d or r it shat down immediately.
look like give up (mechanics) .
thanks for your help

There is a device attached to the shift linkage that prevents the car from being started while the transmission is in a drive or reverse gear. Maybe this linkage is adjusted/wired incorrectly which somehow shuts your engine down when you put the car in gear. I suggest you temporarily bypass this device to see if it is causing the problem. Do you have a wiring diagram?

If it shuts down immediately it sounds like a wiring problem to me also.

thanks so much for your help i will try to bypass and tell you if ok
thanks shimon

Does sound like electrical. When you put it in gear the drivetrain does take a strain so perhaps a loose wire, a loose connector block? New installation of the engine, so check all connectors and check continuity of wires going to distributor. Having everything apart you might have broken wires inside the insulation or at a connector. Perhaps tension holds them in place until the drivetrain takes the strain of being in gear.
This is unnlikely but I had much the same problem on another of my vehicles. The engine died at stop lights and other times when I applied the brakes. It then started happening when I started it and put it in gear. Spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. An old fellow walking by from the retirement home in the neighborhood stopped and asked what was the trouble. He had me run a wire from the battery to the coil. (No ballast resistor in this system.) I started it and she ran just fine. He said immediately, worn out ignition switch". That was it.

I had a car that was arcing from the coil, had to insulate coil wires, more important than you think

hi guys
thank you very much for your help . i am still waiting for parts.
thanks again its very important to me.

Hang in there Shimon - sounds like a relatively minor problem and the way these cars are, once they are set up properly, they usually stay that way for a long time.
