Title: Drive Shaft Problem
Post by: SkopeMan on May 20, 2010, 17:18:04
Hi All,
I found out my Flex Disk was broken, I purchased a new one from autohausaz.com,  however, it was the wrong one.  My car is a '68 250SL, however, it needs not only wheel bearings, but the flex disk as well, for a '67 250SL.  Does anybody know why?  I now have to return the Flex Disk.

On another, more serious topic, here's a picture of the drive shaft, which is totally screwed up at the flex disk end:

This may be harder to find.  Does anybody have any ideas where to get this?  Or have it repaired?  Is there a part number?  The "Technical Manual" on this website has a big blank on this one!

Thanks!

Dan Gray

Dan .... The front drive shaft section is available from MB.

The drive shaft problem that you had is not tat rare; it is caused by a loosening of the bolts that let the bolts move within the yoke.

Drive Line Services of Atlanta can repair and balance the drive shaft.  They are one of the few shops that have the tools to balance the complete drive shaft.

Hello,

I just repaired one of these by welding up solid the damaged ear then centering and re-drilling the bolt hole. Cars gone now, no problems or vibrations. You should be able to find a shop near you to do the work.
