Title: Gift for Mary Alexander
Post by: mdsalemi on May 06, 2010, 21:04:56
Those who attend PUB know that Mary Alexander is Joe's wife (JA17) and co host of PUB.  A couple of years ago she discovered that a nearby town to me had a small street named Mary Alexander Ct., named after a feisty city clerk from the 1920's.  Mary of today asked me to steal the sign for her.  So I did. ;) :o

Actually I didn't steal it, but I did ask the city's DPW department for permission to have their sign vendor make a duplicate for Mary.  They thought it was a pretty neat idea.  Hopefully it will be on display at the next PUB??

(Note about photo: taken in about 30 secs by my 11 year old daughter...actually did NOT want anyone calling the police!  It DOES look suspicious!)

Well done Michael, now Joe can mount it on a post out front directing every one in.

That is too cool. Finally a way to put your county tax dollars to good use!  ;)

And since you evoked something inside my criminal mind, I just did a Google map search to find the nearest Pagoda lane or Pagoda Place! That would be a neat sign in the garage.

I have a friend that used to work for the county.  In his spare time he made signs for various friends and family.

Sorry to say this was NOT made by the county or city, but by their private vendor on the other side of the state (western Michigan).  BUT since it has the City's logo on it I had to get permission from the city in order to have it made.  I do indeed hope that Joe fabricates a post and frame or something and has it up sometime. (hint, hint).

In a bizarre coincidence, the history of "Mary Alexander" the city clerk tells us she was a bit like our present day Mary!  Outspoken, a little feisty, but lovable enough to name a street after her.  Also, all is not what it seems: Mary Alexander Ct. is not a court; it is a through street, one way east to west and only about 600 feet long.  Several nice restaurants call it home.  There are exactly 2 street signs on it, one on either end.  The east side (where the photo was taken) is the only sign with the city logo on it.  The west side is a very small sign, insignificant.

Thanks sooo much Michael,

This was such a big hit with Mary. She proudly is displaying it in the house for now, so she can show anyone who stops by.  I am sure there is no way I could possibly convince her to put it outside for a while. You can be sure it will be on display for the next PUB, (maybe outside by then).

I have a friend who lives in "Via Pagoda Bianca" (White Pagoda street), here in Rome: I can't go there because mine is gray... ;D
