Title: Where do the missing links go
Post by: 230SL on April 27, 2010, 02:18:01
Car 1966 230SL
Unknown parts would you know where the go

***Pic one now 4 so pic 2 is 1 3 is 2 4 is 3
Pic one (3 items) supports of some sort maybe for relays??

2nd pic some kind of anchor i know this piece goes under the car, just about where the convertible top storage compartment is.  I had to bend the fuel/ brake lines around the holes for this piece.

3rd  4 items clamps
I know 1 big one is used for the coolant tube which attaches from the heater core to water pump.
Still missing one for fuel line under left wheel arch?
Other 2 go ???

4th picture Fuel pump, It has a small nipple towards the back of the pump i know on the short models they have a hose which goes from this to the return line Is the tall model the same thing??? The canister in which shields the pump has 2 holes and the rest is enclosed. Better yet a picture of this setup would make things easier.  I have only found the short or open canisters so i am doubtful about the setup my 230 has originally.

Would the return fuel line near the fuel pump have a clamp shown in picture 3?

Sorry for asking for i am sure pictures that are all over the forum but after looking at 30 or so maybe its my luck i am not seeing the right picture or anything in which i can get a good look.  The car was dismantled by someone else and i am stuck with boxes and jars of parts.

the nipple on the fuel pump is a way for the overflow gasoline to drain out in certain cases, if i remember correctly. and nothing attaches to it.

The long black bar supports the coolant overflow tank.
Don't know about the other two

This is an anchor for the aftermarket seat belts. It goes through the floor behind the seats and just in front of the parcel shelf. See:

Picture 1 looks like parts for the trunk lock mechanism.

Thanks for the quick responses, i actually have a square hole where the coolant reservior mounts 2 which are for the actualy reservior and i am guessing the one below is for this support with a nut attached to the firewall.  I will try and see if i can update the pictures and get different angles of the parts.

I believe some of the black clamps are used on routing of the battery cables. I took a look at my car (early 250 SL) and there are a number of those style clamps that support the wiring harness that runs in front of the firewall, however, mine are cad plated.
I also looked at the trunk lock/hold mechanism, and while a similar shape, the visible piece does not look like the one in the picture, perhaps that is a shim underneath the main lock?

The holder for the battery on mine are attached to cable but they might hook somewhere underneath.

Here is a photo of the tank with the support post.  Note that the foot of the post is bolted to the lip on the top of the wheel well not the firewall. Please note that the post was not yet installed because the small plate on the other side of the hinge needed to be welded back under the reservoir again. If you have the same part then you'll have to this also.

Pic one is, I suspect, someone's idea of an anchor point for retro fitted seat belt. Not standard.
The clamps are wiring loom clamps and should be cad plated, not black.

actually since you showed me the picture of the over flow, what goes in the little square hole below the 2 over flow support holes??? and in regards to the clamps stickandrudderman i have used them all over the engine bay these 4 are the ones that i don't know where they go.  How big is the one that holds the fuel line which goes to the engine and connects to the fuel dampener Its in picture 2 and sits in back of steering box. Thats one i need to know, also in the back of the car where one of the lines make a big curve bend is there another one there that holds the line up???Picture 3 identifies curved line which attaches to a T

It is a bit difficult to see but I believe that inside the square hole is a nut and if so then I would predict that you had a Becker 2-piece radio installed. There is a bracket in the cabin that holds the amplifier piece. See:
