Are the deminsions of a 250 SL engine compatible with a 1965 230 SL chassis? What are the deck heights of each? My 230 SL has a 250 engine that sits high in the frame. The hood will close and latch but comes in contact with the engine. Any correct information is greatly appreciated.

I shall be interested to hear the responses. I thought the blocks etc, were pretty much interchangeable, dimension wise.

... My 230 SL has a 250 engine that sits high in the frame. ...
Is it an engine that came from a 250SL or from another car? If it is from a different model then the side arms could be wrong.

Thank you for the information and link Alfred. The issue may be with the side supports. I will consult with my mechanic. In a perfect world I wiould like to find a good 230 SL engine, as this car as been sitting up in excess of 20 years.

Engine supports are probably wrong. I have a set if your interested. Also, Metric motors took my 250 in exchange for a 230 motor. Hope this helps.

The engine side supports on a sedan must be changed if the engine is used in a SL. The sedan engine sits about 1/2" higher !

Thanks to all once again for the the valuable information. I found the Metric Motors site Jesse, thanks. I may be in touch about the side arm supports.

There is an interesting diagram on the SLS web site showing how a misalignment of the drive train or missing plates can lead to the engine sitting too high. Although the text is in German it is clear from the sketch that only the green one is correct.
