...towards the end of a lovely morning drive, Helmut insisted on hearing the Kompressor's siren-song just one more time. "I guess I'll be sending the Wienerschnitzel out to the garage tonight, while you change that head gasket again," Inge sighed as they pulled onto the show field...

......that reminds me of a replica I built of a 1930 something 540K in a previous live (1986). Drove it all the way to Pebble Beach to visit the Historic Races and was welcomed with open arms and ushered into the infield to be displayed with the real Mac Coys. I told them what it was, but they loved it and made me really wellcome. That was the beginning of a great California Classic Car weekend, Mercedes was the featured mark. Drove it all the way from BC to California and back, even through the desert, by mistake, without any hiccups.....but that's' another story.

That was a great show: Did you see the beautiful model dressed in the 1930's period clothes beside the car? The maroon Mercedes 540K was brought from the Kemp Museum In St. Louis by the Rodger van Ness of MBCA . Ir used to belong to Herr Milch, the head of the German Luftwaffe before Hitler fired him. Only 2 cars were made and only this one survived.

The 540K is Fabulous. It apparently was driven by Adoph Eichmann during WWII. So it has an interesting history. Good thing ghosts don't stick to cars.
A bit off topic; The big video camera on the 30' crane at the judges stand was one of mine. I have about 45 hours of HD footage of the Concours and the seminars that I am currently wading through to produce a TV show. No date set. I can tell you that Richard Petty is absolutely as nice a fellow as he seems to be.

I read the results and see some pictures of the Alemia Island concours every year. It is on my to do list as was Pebble Beach when it was affordable. still I would like to go and say Yes I have been there and taken in the the Vogue of classic and vintage automobiles that are art on four wheels , yes I would like to travel there some day.
