Title: Steering box rebuild
Post by: thelews on March 13, 2010, 15:33:47
Took my 1967 early 250 SL power steering box to www.blackforestllc.com for a resealing.  It had been slowly leaking internally since I got the car.  They used a Mercedes reseal kit with the O-rings, gaskets, washers, etc.  Also, went through double checked for play and proper operation (no issues).  Returned to me with the centering pin in place and Pitman arm centered.  I will install this weekend.

Does your 67 250SL have the P/S pressure line that goes up to the idle lift cylinder?

I only have two lines, one to the pump and one to the reservoir.

Now that's interesting.
I'm currently restoring a 66 250SE convertible that has a hydraulic throttle lifting device, powered from the PAS.
I've not seen one of these before and some of the linkage appears to be missing.
Has anyone got any pictures and a description of purpose and function?

Hello Colin,

This linkage input was used on some early models with sutomatics only. It was added to keep to idle from falling below 600 rpms during parking lot turning and idling situations.

They are some help Naj, but not the final answer!
The car in question doesn't have the usual electric solenoid as shown in your pictures, rather it has some sort of diaphragm cell that appears to have no external connections!
Also there's no throttle switch, it's blanked off, and no hydrualic switches on the transmission.
I've looked through all of my tech books and can't find this system described anywhere.
It's just occured to me that I've hijacked someone's thread. Let me know if I've offended and I'll start a new post.
