Title: Staples
Post by: johnm on February 03, 2010, 17:07:29
Hi Folks.... I'm in the process of re-covering the two panels located just foward of each door and under the dash of my 280SL. In removing the old leather covering I find the staples have a barb of approx 1/8" to accomodate the thin panel. The smallest I've been able to locate here in Nova Scotia is a 1/4" barb in the local hardware stores. Is anyone aware of where I may be able  to source these along with the appropriate staple gun. OR is there a more effective method of fastening the leather to the panel without using staples? Thanks!

John,

Hey, could be worse!  You could be in Newfoundland... ;)

Anyway--you'll have to go mail order.  Try this chart first:

Then call Senco or find some sources that might be able to get the size you need.

John I used 3m spray glue and it worked great.  Get the heavyduty stuff and you should have no problems. Note of caution: keep it from getting on your hands because it is a pain to get off.

The short staples are commonly used in the upholstery industry. Find a commercial upholstery supply. I bought a box of 1,000. Of course, you will need a compatible staple gun; I purchased a relatively inexpensive pneumatic staple gut to make the job quick and easy.
