Title: Gas smell after fueling
Post by: deacon on February 01, 2010, 05:09:12
My wife, again has had to open the garage a bit for the night.  I refueled this afternoon and every time I do, the garage smells STRONGLY of gas.  I drove the car ten miles after I refueled and there is no fuel outside the cap.  This happens every time I get gas (no not me - gas for the car).  It never returns - it will be fine tomorrow, but this evening it is a really strong smell.

Any input?

Hi David,

This is a fairly common issue.  Read this area of the Tech Manual and check and replace your hoses if they are old.  While they may look solid, small cracks in the rubber may not show until you squeeze and/or bend the hose(s).

Checking fuel hoses is good advice.
Also, only fill the tank until the filler pops off. This will leave a certain amount of head room at the top of the tank. Any air at the top above the fuel will compress slightly and you will loose less if any.
