Below is a link to photos of my 67 230SL which I am having restored here in Poland. This was not a smart purchase but we are working to bring the car back to a decent condition. Sorry for not posting photos but I could not reduce the size, even after reading the FAQ

Hi Mike--
Great job!
It appears on your seats that you replaced the "horsehair" with foam. Could you provide a little more information on that--what type and size foam pieces did you use for the seat and backrest? Did you cut them to emulate the "horsehair", that is, cut the notches that fit over the seat frame, or do the foam pieces just ride on the frame?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like there will be another pristine 230 SL back on the road when you are finished.
It also looks like you are going back to an original color but it is hard to determine the exact color from pictures. Is that 162 Blue Grey?
Please keep the pictures coming so that we can track your progress.

I was also curious about the color, quite nice, but which is it. The computer monitor just does not do a decent job on that kind of stuff.

Hi
Seem to be a good job the shop is doing.
I have been thinking about sending my car to Poland for a small fresh-up.
Can you tell us more about the firm doing the restoration are they mercedes specialists?
Thanks...
-
I will post the details from the data card tomorrow. The guy working on the car has a small shop with a couple of guys working for him. He is very detailed, reasonably priced and has restored a couple of Mercedes, in addition to mine. He is currently working on a Rolls Royce a friend owns. I plan on sending him my 55 Thunderbird to work on when the 230 is finished. Send me a PM and I will send you his details. He is located just outside of Warsaw.

It must be a great feeling (although probably not cheap) to see your car coming back to life to your exact specification.
-
The color code is 162 Blue Grey and 158 White Grey. I hope to post better photos soon.

Beautiful job! Looks like brand new.

It is looking great! I just started a similar project? How long has it taken you so far?
-
Good luck with your project. We have been working on this for just under 18 months and are in the final month or so. Am just posting more photos and hope to have the motor in by the end of next week.

Let me know if you find a source for the strap type clamps that hold the parking brake cables to the axle tubes. I did an axle rebuild and cannot find the OEM style clamps. Looks great so far.
-
I'm sure that Dave Gallon can get the strapping material for you. When I redid mine, I got it through the Classic Center because I didnt know Dave at that time.

I will check on the cable and come back to you as to where we found it.

Have been very slow in posting photos lately. Now only two weeks to go and we will be on the road. Has been a long 18 months but has hopefully been worth the wait. Mike

that first day out will certainly be worth the wait and ever day you take it out will be a special one!.
Congrats on some hard work that will be all worthwhile
Look forward to seeing some pics when it is on the road
cheers rob

Hey Filipiuk,
Extremely well done so far! Congratulations! :)
I've got one question,
you posted pictures of your distributor before and after rebuilt.
Please, what did you do to the vacuum unit of the distributor? This looks cadmium plated to me.
Please, did you just replate it (I always believed that is not possible with this unit) or is it a new one?
Thanks a lot
and I am looking forward to more pics and news on your progress.
Best,
Achim

Achim,
I checked with my mechanic, it was cleaned, polished and zinc-plated. Hope this helps with your question.

A recent photo, getting closer to being on the road but missed the two week deadline. Mike

Great Restauration. Wondering why you chose to zinc chromate some of the aluminum parts that weren't originally plated? The zinc will wear after a while and it seems it would be much easier and cheaper down the line to clean and polish those pieces rather than going through the labor of plating.
Not to say that it doesn't look awesome though
-
Bernd,
For most parts he cleaned and polished them but zinc plated a few. To be honest, I left it up to him to decide, he is very detailed and so far has shown very good judgement in restoring the car. We had a bit of a set back recently when a spring broke when working on the soft top frame and it scratched the paint on the side. The car was just repainted this week and I hope to finish it some time this week or next.
