Should there be any sort of gasket between the chrome strips and the bodywork or are they screwed directly on to the paintwork?
Thanks

Which chrome strips do you have in mind, on the doors, the hard top, the quarter panels ???
The first ones are described here: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=2981
Search for the others, there is plenty of information here.

I am refering to the strip behind the rear wheel. This is fairly heavy so I think is chrome plated brass. It was held on with self tapping screws which I will replace with stainless steel 4mm bolts & nyloc nuts. I have to sort out some surface rust round the mounting holes first.

..........just went through the same job on ALL chrome trim......as far as I know there is no rubber gasket, as I hoped there would be, so I used silicone behind the chrome before installing to prevent water to get behind it........you are on the right track with stainless steel screws.......I wished the "experts" that worked on the car before would have done so, would have saved me a LOT of work...come to think of, I used a small, barley visible beet of silicon around all exterior trim for the same reason.
CHEERS !

Thanks Witt, good idea with the silicone!

My car is missing those exact chrome strips as well - does anyone have part number for them or a link to a webshop where they can be purchased ?

These guys have them, cost you 160 Euros each!
Not sure whether that includes the plastic insert.
