Hi Need some help:
I live in Australia and Bosch Australia have ONLY the Contact Set for only European Distributors for the Pagoda's.
My USA W113 Manual 1970 model Contact Set are very different as to setup; in the European Pagodas.
Surely these Contact Set are available in the USA;
So can someone give me the numbers of the Bosch Contact Set and where I can buy a couple of sets
It is impossible to convert the Eurpean Contact Set to work in the USA model Distributor.
All the best to you all "Up-Above" in the USA.
Thanks Leah

Hey Leah
What part of Oz - I`m in Brisbane. If you are really desperate I might have a set
Cheers

Hi Georgem
That woul;d be great; it is weird for Mercedes, to have 2 different Contact Sets.
Ok the USA part number is Bosch 1237013112 Worth $20 for the European + Aussie one.
My gut instinct is this is too weird; meaning the W123 Distributor will fit on the 280SL engines.
So the contact set may be the same for the late model USA Pagoada as is the same for the W123 ? ? ? ?
You will know if it is the right one: as the black wire from the contact unit slides on not screwed to the side wall
Hope you got one ?
I am checking out a W123 tomorrow to see if I can get the Contact Set to fit; as I have the old one to use as my guide.
Hey thanks for thinling of me; I am in Sydney.
My partner loves buying Pagodas; so if yopu know any for sale locally around Brisbane please tell me
Ciao Leah.

Leah,
I have a spare set of BERU brand points, part # KS 600 (0 340 100 041) to fit Bosch 1 237 013 007.
Are these any good. They fit my 230 SL
Cheers

Leah,
Have a look here under Distributor Service Parts:

Re:
""USA part number is Bosch 1237013112 ""
I don't think this is correct for a '70 USA aluminum bodied distributor (last three numbers on distributor: 062)

Hello Leah,
If you could post the distrubutor number it would help. I may be able to cross the points over to some other cars.
Also, do your points have the "fork" terminal at the end of the wire lead, or is it a slide on "spade" connector.
The USA cars with the factory electronic ignition had the slide on "spade" connector. Earlier 280 SLs withoug the electronic ignition had the early "fork" terminal.
I am sure there is a simple solution to your problem.

Please Help Me Naj,
As you said the 1237013112 part number is WRONG I am clueless as I am unable to identify my own Distrut or to find the right Contact Set
You will know if it is the right one: as the black wire from the contact unit slides on; not screwed to the side wall .
The European ones are screwwed to the side wall and the housing plate is different.
My Distributor has NO numbers, it does not even have the Bosch Badge with the number on it. ! ! !
I have not taken it off but it looks and feels like metal not aluminium.
The Coil is Blue Bosch 0221119027 K 12 N 441 - (050 ) The numbers where on the buttom of the coil. It looks a million years old.
When I pulled the lead off. I saw green power stuff in the hole. I put it back on and it works; which is wonderful.
I need the right Contact Set to make this Distributor work again I cleaned up the old ones like it said in the Technical section and they work for now.
Our problem all parts are for UK and European Pagoda's !!! The US versions 1970 like I own. I must be able to buy parts in the USA.
I am seriously thinking of going for the Transistorised Distributor or the W123 Distributor setup.
For now the $20 sound great at the moment for the Contact set
I hate all the stupid pullion gear on my US version Pagoda
I had No problems with this Pagoda. It all started when I blew the water hose off going to Heater.
I have had a Mechanic place a new Head on the Pagoda.
Guess what now I have lots of issues. I have read all I can in the Technical Section.
It is now like this Mechanic is planning everything to go wrong in order in a planned strategy.
The mechanic NEVER SETUP the timing; like it's setout in the Technical section when he placed the as NEW Head on the block engine back into the Pagoda.
I am going back to my original mechanic; but his partner died of a heart attack + I was keen to get my Pagoda on the road again; big mistake.
So I gave this nasty a go; and watched him ruin my Trailer Queen.
I am so impressed I am becoming a full member immediartely
Thanks again Leah

Joe Alexander your on the money; mate !
The USA cars with the factory electronic ignition had the slide on "spade" connector; That's what i have got !
Yes I tried to find the numbers on my Distributor to qualify the correct Contact Set. Their are NONE on the Distributor !
Also the frame of the Contact Set is different on The FORK ONES; they are different size and shape too.
Not the same as the USA Spade or Slide ones !
Would you like to buy a set for me and send them out by AIR MAIL POST ?
Give me the total cost and I will EFT the funds into your account if that's OK with you FIRST THOU?
Please explain the electronic ignition I am confused ?
Hopefully we have solve the problem Joe. Thanks Leah

Hello, Leah,
Take Joe's advice and find the distributor #, otherwise you will end up with the wrong parts.
Over its 40 year life, parts may have been changed and its best to make sure whay you've got.
The late distributors do not have a plate but the # will be stamped on the body. See pic.

I took my points to Supercheap Auto in Brisbane and scrounged around until I found the correct ones.
Turns out they were for an international truck.
I did the same for the distributor cap.
*Forgot to mention I bought Bosch parts.
*Later I needed a new rotor.
*I went to MB Brisbane and they sold it to me for $6.50 and they came in the exact packaging used by Supercheap Auto and about the same price.

Hello Leah,
Naj is correct, some of the later distributors have the number stamped in the side with no tag. Use a flash light (torch) and a mirror to see the number.
Now I have my own code for describing the type of contacts used in these cars which I have used for years. Three features easily describe any set. (1) Look down on the distributor and see if the contact set goes "clockwise" or "counterclockwise" (start at the pivot and moving in the direction of the contacts). (2) see if you have a "fork" terminal or "spade" terminal at the end of the contact set wire. (3) is the post (pivot) of the contacts "built in the distributor" or "part of the contact set".
Now you should be able to easily describe the type of contact set you need.
The earliest W113 cars used ignition contacts which were "counterclockwise", with "forked wire terminal" and no "post" (pivot).
Later W113 cars used ignition contacts which were "clockwise", with "forked" wire terminal, and no "post" (pivot)
Latest W113 cars used ignition contacts which were "clockwise", with "spade" (slide on) wire terminal and hd the "pivot" (post) built into the ingnition contacts.
The above descriptions are accurate if the original distributors are still with the car. However you can still use the three distinguishing factors to describe any ingnition contacts accurately.
I believe the later USA cars used the ignition contacts which were "clockwise"/ "spade" wire terminal/with "post" built into the ignition contacts. This was Bosch #1 237 013 059. I see several other Bosch ignition contact sets in my catalog which have the same configuration and may work. Sometimes only the length or direction of the wire is slightly different! Quite usable. I see at least six possible alternatives.
With the original sets, the "fork" wire terminal type of contacts were always used on the non-transistorized cars, while the "spade" (slide-on) wire terminals were always used on the factory transistorized cars. This rule may not apply if the original distributors have been changed.
I have some early Bosch catalogs which have pictures of the contacts and also show cross reff. to different types of automobiles of the era. In most cases many of these contact sets were used in many other applications. Same sets were used in Alfa Romeo, BMW, Volvo, VW etc.
I think that if you get us the right information you will have no trouble finding the ignition contacts locally.
First of all, if you can not retrieve a distributor part number. Use the above three part method to identify the ignition contacts that you have in your car. Then I can supply you with several Bosch part numbers so you can buy them locally hopefully. If not, I am sure we can get some shipped to you.
Carry on!

Joe & Naji,
Many thanks for your time patients and efforts; this was extremely encouraging to me.
I went back and scrubbed all the paint and grim off the Distributor Barrel and found the magic number. Thanks for pushing me; I gave up too soon the first time around.
The number for the Distributor is below with the matching numbers from our Pagoda SL Group for the other Distributor essentials viz
Type: 0 231 116 062
Points: 1 237 013 059
Cap: 1 235 522 060
Rotor: 1 234 332 109
Condenser: 1 237 330 181
The spares Points, Cap, + Rotor, which came with the Pagoda are quite different in their numbers
I am also sending you over a photo of the Contact Set or Points that work and are burn out I have got them working again with a big clean up.
Joe please, check out your Bosch Catalogue; and find me a match with a bit of cross references please.
Hopefully I can them buy them here in Australia; for another vehicle
At this stage do I need to get a new Condenser 1 237 330 181 too ? As I should replace everything while I am ahead.
After all that couple of photos of my beloved Gringo
Cordially to you all “UP-Above” for your help. Cheers for 2010 LEAH

Hello Leah,
First, try to stay with "Bosch" brand ingnition contacts. They seem to outlast most aftermarket contacts. I did have good luck with "IKAR" brand ventilated ingition contacts also.
I am surprised that a good Bosch supplier in your area is not able to get the 1 237 013 059. These exact ignition contacts were also used on some MB sedans of the era (220/8 and 280SE) and some other car manufacturers. Try to get the correct Bosch number first 1 237 013 059.
So these original 1 237 013 059 ignition contacts are "clocklise", "spade terminal" with the "pivot post" .
Here are some other Bosch numbers. They have the same configuration. I am sure some of these will work also. You will have to match your originals to them. Make sure the wire length is long enough and the pivot and screw hole line up with the old set. Here are some choices with the same configuration......
Bosch # 1 237 013 082 (also MB 220 1970-1972, seems to be a perfect match), also Bosch #1 237 013 061 (Porsche, check wire length), Bosch #1 237 013 052 (BMW, Saab, Renault),Bosch #1 237 013 062 (Volvo), Bosch #1 237 013 078 (Volvo, the wire goes in the wrong direction, you would have to detach and change direction).

Hello, Leah,
Also some other brand alternatives:
Beru KS650
Bremi 1069
Lucas DSB436C
As Joe says, lots of Euro Cars used them including BMW, Ford, Saab, Volvo etc.
The condenser seems to be unique to MB. 001 156 0501

Hello Naj and Joe,
Thanks again for all your support and help in this issues of the POINTS.
FYI all the points by Bosch named are only available from their German office.
One exception Bosch 1 237 013 061 for the Porsche; hopefully the wire length will reach ?
I am going to make an order for everything; but I am un decided as I may go for Transistor Distributor or W123 Distributor.
Naj I will check out Lucas, Bremi, and Beru.
It has really been great being able to exchange with you both on my problem. Hopefully the pictures came out at your end ?
Love to you both LEAH
