Title: Headlight removal - 1977 280 SL

I need to repair some rust around the headlight and trim but would like some advice or instructions on how to remove the headlight assembly. I need to do this to be able to repair the body close the trim and assembly. Is there any online source of information or illustrations. Any general instructions would be helpful

If you have a 1977 280SL then you are on the wrong site! This is for Pagoda type SL (1963-1971)

Yes, yours is a W107.

There is a thin panel below the headlamp assy with a hole at the corner. You have to remove the screw in that hole and a couple more on the same panel that are under the hood.
Once off, the headlamp/amber lens can be removed as an assembly after removing the screws holding the headlamp frame to the body.

A1,

Here are pics showing how to remove a 107 Euro headlight assembly. The wiring harness/connector simply plugs into the rear of the light.  

If, however, you are converting from US to Euro headlights you will need to rewire to accommodate the differences.
