I'm a new member here, and here are pictures of my 1967 250SL. It's a Euro car, with a ZF 5 speed, in 717 papyrus white with medium blue interior. I took photos last summer, and then took pictures recently with the hard top fitted. I purchased the car last summer, and I am trying to figure out what to do next.

I would start with getting a period correct radio. Looks like a nice car and the 5 speed must be nice.

Great colour combo.
A set of period correct driving or fog lights set wide apart would liven up the front,
I like the idea of the five speed but am sure you have far more chances of a speeding ticket in the 500E

I disagree, detracts from the clean, pure lines of the early 250 SL and 230 SL.

I am totally with John here.
Don't even think about putting foglights, rally-lights, additional horns (or something weird like that) on the car! That's no good for anything!
(Especially) the Euro front is beautiful as is. Everything else will only destroy it.
Q1: What whould you want with additional fog lights? A: You have already some in the headlight units. And driving during fog is not often (rarely) the case with our cars nowadys.
Q2: Additonal high-beam headlights? A: Get good H4 bulbs (Osram Haloroad or equivalent) into your headlight units instead of the Bilux and light output is fine. Low beam is much more important than high beam. How often do you use the latter? Rarely - in my case - too much oncoming traffic. And low beam? Constantly.
Q3: A second set of low-beam headlights then? A: You can do that if you want. Is not allowed in Germany or AFAIK other central European countries but maybe in the States.
So, to sum up:
No additional Hella or whatsoever lights necessary. Leave the beauty of the car's front as is. And you don't need to drill holes into your bumpers.

I'm a purist too when it comes to these cars, I like the front without fog lamps as well, takes away the clean lines of the most handsome car ever made. (Second to w111 coupe low grill ). ;D

I should not pile on with such big style opinion, should not play the clever Dick here, sure ...
But I think somehow I was "technically right" for the most of us "normal style SL" users.

In your case you are of course absolutely right!
Rallying (...) ... uhm, participating in sportive events like rallys or kicking away hindering Porsche Cayennes from the autobahn's passing lane (I really should shut up now :o) is a completely different story. In these cases additional lights are absolutely mandatory and essential. Would be in that case even nice to have floodlight ;D like in football ... sorry, socker stadiums. ;D

ah no ... I think. ;)
I believe more that "those guys there" (Dieter Glemser, Martin Braungart, and partly Eugen Boehringer) drove that harsh - not gentleman-like enough to save their buch of head lights - but fast enough to reach a good positioning during the rally(e) :o

But the w111 coupe (and cabriolet) high grill is beautiful as well. ;)
Lots of Mercedes aficionados - owning one or not - like/love the high grill ("Hochkühler") at least as much :o :o

I think it's about time we invited all of you "purists" downunder [Australia] for an overnight dash down any of our back country highways or byways, you are sure going to want more than just a standard set of Euro lights on your 113.
With all due respect to Gary's signature image, see below it's not just suicidal kangaroos that will pop out of the bush and deliberately mangel the front of your pride and joy, you need to be on the lookout for cattle & sheep, [10's of millions of each] about a million camels, plus horses, wild pigs, water buffalo, wombats and emus [skiny ostriches] to name a few.
So every extra bit of light penetration is good insurance.

Last comment, I wish it was as easy to get fish to rise to the bait as it is to "hook" 113 owners on the subject of what hangs off the front of their cars.

Of course I understand your concerns regarding kangaroos, cattle and etc. disturbing fast overland travelling....
However, even in that case...
Have you already exchanged the original bilux bulbs with Osram Haloroads H4? Much better light output.
Second, someone else here stated that even halogen bulbs with 55/100W bulbs are available.
These are much brighter than the ordinary halogens. Sadly, those are not allowed in Germany. :(
