Title: Build Thread?
Post by: tomaco1 on December 01, 2009, 11:38:12
I was wondering if there was anywhere I could post an ongoing build thread. A place to post pics of progress, problems, questions, etc.
I've done this with another project and it was very helpful to me and others going through the same process.
Thanks

This is as good a place as any, though it may be best to split build threads according to the existing topic headings, so your engine build in drive train, etc. Good luck with the build and look forward to seeing it as it happens!

The build has been very slow going due to an injury, but we're going to start kicking it up again. I'm sending the car and engine to Hans "the fuel injection guru" so he can install the motor. He's a great guy, he's going to let me work with him, he even offered for me to bring the students with me.
Going for the older style wheels, I just like the look better.

Another approach is to document in Microsoft Word and use as your source content which can be Copy 'n Pasted here or on any other website. Pics or links can be embedded and you can either keep in native format or save as a HTML file (or both).

While keeping a log on a forum is great, it can lose its continuity with questions and comments. If the source is controlled on your desktop then you can post and preserve the flow. Keep in mind many forums have a limit on the size of each individual post which will require breaking the content up.

If you don't have MS Word then you can download the free (Open Source) MS Office equivalent, called "Open Office". http://www.openoffice.org/ (http://www.openoffice.org/)

The best approach by far is to use the Wiki/Technical Manual... any Full Member can modify things there, and it's an ideal place for a build thread. In fact, I could create a place holder for it.

Where in the TM would this go?  The TM is topic-oriented.  I ask because I may actually get my 280 back from the paint shop in a couple of weeks, and I would like to document the process of putting it back together.

None of the boards seem to be the right place for this.  Maybe we should consider a "My car" or "My story" or "My big project board for situations like this.

Obviously a few of these go nowhere but I'd like to bet that once done, the various elements of the build - and questions/contributions - could be distilled into a Wiki section or 6. BPossels resto/rebuild thread would be another candidate

Just a thought and while we may not need a whole section of the board on the issue, I would see a thread as useful to some. Perhaps a sticky somewhere

Its been a while as I got sidetracked by a Defender 110 project, but we finally got the car back from paint. Looks unbelievable, pics look olive drab, but in person the Dark olive looks unbelievable.

Thanks, the color is nice, we weren't sure until we saw it in person.
