Post age.

There's a place in the Member Profile to list Age...very few members have entered their Age.
I expect not many will respond to this survey and some repsonses will likely be inaccurate.
For some reason, Pagoda owners like to hide their age.
Richard M, NYC ... ageless

I was 1 when my car was born. That's how I remember my age... You all can do the math!

I was born in the year james had his 1st B/Day ! ;D

Fat, Ugly, and Old...is that enough for you?

Entering your age in your profile is not anonymous. Entering it in this poll is anonymous. I entered my age, and found out I'm NOT in the majority age group! Hurray! Would you like to know? Just vote!

Hurray, you just found out you hang out with a bunch of old farts.
-
I never thought it would ever happen, but I guess I'm one of those average, grumpy, old farts that hang out around here.....
( Hey! Who took my walker? )

The member profile is not very well organized.
ICQ, YIM, MSN, IM seem to have a handful of remaining users and take up a lot unused space.
Better Location choices like US, EU, Asia and US states could allow better organization of local events/referrals
Better info on demographics could allow a redesign of some site features....and increase membership

Elvis died a few days after my birthday, so they say.... ;D

Kayvan... the supply of info in this section is entirely voluntary (except for Location, that's now being standardised for all new joiners, and Full Members). Age, sex, it's not compulsory. Actually, most non-US members have no problem supplying these details, it is the US membership that refuses to enter these details. If we were to ask for this info prior to joining, I'm sure that would actually decrease membership, or people would enter made up values rendering any decisions you make based on them less useful. That's why these details are not compulsory. By the way, what was your reason for not entering these details?
The amount of space wasted on ICQ etc info in the database is actually less than 0.064% of the database space. Modern database systems store an empty field as a single byte. We have four of those fields. We have 1600 member records. Total space taken by these fields when empty is 6400 bytes. Our database is >100MB large. For me to remove that from the system would render our system incompatible with the base version, and we therefore would not be able to take advantage of upgrades and new versions developed. I therefore will not remove that info, and there would be no point in doing so.
What specific redesign and site features do you have in mind? I have been monitoring and fine-tuning a lot of aspects on the site, but I'm always keen to hear of good ideas from someone else.

I forgot I even had a walker---- wait I remember walker-- Walker texas ranger---ranger--- i was there when they won the cup not in 1940 though- cup --where is that cup with my teeth

The age banding isn't very useful here. It's split into 5 year bands where there are the least members. Most of us are 50+. It would be useful to break the 50+ group down into 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Well its still 50/50 split, over 50/under 50......
This was by design. Most realize collector car owners are over 50.
In an effort to understand what attracts younger 113 owners, and perhaps make ownership more accesible thru sharing of information and community.
The hobby and the 113 need to broaden their following to ensure more 113s are preserved; more suppliers support the model, and sites such as these expand and grow.
-
Most relational databases have a pretty simple option to rename fields or modify the structure. In this case we are deleting information, and with 1000+ records, it should be possible to sort location into more finite discrete fields.
Yep... but changing the database this way would break future upgrades of the software, and that's why I won't do it!

No need to hide your ages. Pagodas are for the 'Grown & Sexy ' LOL .

Wow only 72 out of 350 Full Member SL Owners ?????....less than 20%.
I though 113 SL owners were proud of their cars AND themselves!!!!!
I envisoned owners happy to post their ages whether distinguished dashing older gentleman or young suave dapper types.
Hmmm...the Ferrari Forum has 100% participation in their age polls 8)
-
Yes, and the Ferrari people are alot more arrogant too. This site is more about what it was designed for...talk about cars.
Would hate to see this become "what is the most expensive watch you own" or "how much can you afford to pay..."...
"are you on wife number 3 or number 4".....sorry,,I just had to add that one for fun.
People here are more humble, genuine....and yes they are proud of who they are and what they have, yet confident enough that they don't have to flaunt it.
IMHO...I may add ;)

The percentage is much less if you consider all members, full and basic.
My guess is that most people do not live on the internet like some of us do (myself included).....
-
I can just hear the Mrs. now if she caught me lurking on the Ferrari forum. Hmm, maybe I'll try that on April 1st.
-
Hmmmm.... how to respond? I'm over 50, hubby is under 50... As Twain said, lies, damned lies, and statistics.
-
What is so important about the age of a member? I've always wondered why this info was included and now seems a good time to ask.
-
Peter, you have assumed in your poll that there are no owners less than 25 ::)
It would be interesting to know who the youngest and the oldest members are on the forum(if they are happy to be named) I'm neither by the way
They could have a special honour!
-
I did not post the poll! Anyone can post a poll. Ask the original poster (Kayvan) why!
Peter
-
I did not post the poll!
i apologise>
kayvan??
-
35, soon to be 36, but I agree, not really sure how relevant, age is just a number ;)
-
OK we are in the 90s.....
@ 150 thats half of full members....lets keep going!!!!!!!
-
Interesting... I'm in the second smallest group of owners at 34... I sincerely wish I'd owned this car at 19 though.
-
we added 25 in 7 days....keep it coming
-
I am in the last and largest group and I did own this car when I was 19.
-
Hey, if this poll goes on much longer I'll automatically move from the second largest group to the largest group. I feel like I'm a member of the smallest group, though! (Well, sometimes... not all the time!) ;)
-
Hey, I've been in all 5 groups!
-
Hey, I've been in all 5 groups!
Me too :) I was 22 when I took delivery of my 250 SL back in May '67 and just had turned 24 when I traded it in on my 280 SL. Have had a Pagoda in the garage for 45 years now. The joy of driving this car is the same today as it was all those years ago.

Hey, I've been in all 5 groups!
Well, I too just recently graduated! As of April 26th, I am no longer a 49er ...
I was 25 when I officially took over the title. I was 17 when I first drove my Pagoda.
-
My car is a 1966 born in 1965 3 months after me... 8)
-
My car was born in August 1969 - three years after me. I first drove my car when I was 22 andlast drove it when I was 26, 10 minutes after my Dad caught me power drifting it around a corner. Apparently he thought I was too agressive for the car. It was a breeze drifting it compared to my MGB but much harder than my BMW 2002.

45, and in the second largest group.
It is interesting to note the relation between the age of the owners and the age of their cars. I think in Europe people mostly restore/collect the cars they saw in the streets when they were kids, while in the US people collect more the cars they started driving or that were in the streets at that time. Following that logic, most 50+ here would be US citizens, while younger ones would be of European origin. I don't know the relation in other parts of the world though. From what I've seen during my trips into Asia and Africa it seems enthousiats there are even younger.
-
Would be interesting to ask what age members were when they first bought their pagoda. We might be old farts now but maybe we are actually young farts that just stayed loyal. Bought mine when I was 35 but now the big 50 is approaching fast.
-
I was 38 when I bought mine...
-
First one at 50, second one at 58.
-
I was 24 when I bought my 280SL. That was 25 years ago. Beautiful styling is timeless.
-
I am beginning to feel very old ???. Come on guys, there has got to be some one out there that has owned one of these cars longer then I have.
John
-
Purchased my 1965 230sl, Sept. 2 1975, for $2700 US dollars.
-
I bought my 68SL in May 1973 at the age of 28
-
I bought my 1967 early 250SL in June 2002, I am now 63yo
-
I was 27 when my dad bought what is now my Pagoda. I'm a hair (perhaps I should say no hair!) under 55 at this point.

I took delivery of my 1971 280SL in May of 2011. It was my 50th birthday present. Best present I have ever received!
-
Mine was flatbedded to me in Febuary of 2009, a month before my 50th birthday.
But, it was more of a midlife crisis than a birthday present. ;D
I've had my Camaro for over 35 years and I know a Camaro doesn't count, but even with that I still can't beat 49er. ;)
-
Come on guys, there has got to be some one out there that has owned one of these cars longer then I have.
Ah no, hardly.... ;)
There's nobody having the car longer than you have, John. :D
Bought my 1st 230-partscar at age of 23; car had same age as me back then.
Now the car is 26 years older - so am I. :D ;D
-
Bought mine a month ago, at the ripe old age of 32. :P
-
Got mine at 32 as well - it's a good year ;)
-
Born 1972.
-
Age?
In 1967 I took delivery of my first new car: a 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. However, the adjacent lot (in Baltimore) was the Mercedes-Benz dealer and they had a white 250SL facing directly at the Olds dealer when I was there. It was nearly twice the price of the Cutlass but I really wanted it. That didn't happen until 18 years later (1985) when I finally bought my 158 white-grey '67 250SL. 27 years later, I still have it, though 5 years ago, during restoration, I changed its color to 268 dark green. I have never been happier with a car.

I turned 81 last week, I never thought I make it that far. In the ///M3 Forum (in 2011) I started a very similar post and it created a lot of interest.
Don’t mind me saying so I think the last sections of this Poll should be ....
60 to 70
70 to 80
80 plus
There are a few of us 80 plus enjoying our Pagoda :) I unlocked this post since many of you fine Ladies and Gentleman have joined this great site after the last post was made some 6 plus years ago. Further I find it interesting reading on a rainy day :)
So don’t be shy, modify your Profile add your birthday (nothing to be a shamed off that date), :) besides The Pagoda SL Group will send you a birthday greeting on your Birthday that I think is a nice touch.
I tost to all you younger Pagoda owners may you reach the high age of the 80s and enjoy your Pagoda as much as I do now. :)

The OP of this thread was 9 years ago, so the age of the members who listed it is no longer accurate...
I bought my 12/1970 280SL when it was 11½ years old at the age of 30....
Still riding motorcycles.. 8)
-
I ordered my 280SL at the age of 29 but turned thirty before it was delivered at Sindelfingen in February of 1969.
-
Happy Birthday Dieter. You and Ralph are my role models 8). I was almost 23 when I took delivery of my 1st SL, a 250, in May of '67 and just turned 24 when when I drove home in my 280 in '68. Still feel like I am 24 when I get behind the wheel, at least mentally :)

At age 40, I bought mine. Can remember the day it happened back in 1983. Asking price was $13,000. I responded with a $11,500 offer. The owner said (exact words)....."Shoot, I'll take $10K for it." And what did I say? Not sure; it took me awhile to be able to talk. ;D
-
Bought my first, a 63 230SL in 1968 at age 29, my second, a 69 280SL, two years later. The third, a 250SL, came along in 1979. Finally, found my current pony, a 67 250SL, at age 74 in 2013. The first three lasted anywhere from 9 months to two years before moving along. The current one is a keeper and is destined for my son in SoCal. Not right now, though!
-
Happy birthday Dieter! New would have thought you were 81. I figured about 69 to 70.
John

I bought my first SL on Oct. 13th, 1977 when I was 22 years old; except it was a 190SL. In Nov. 1988 I bought a 280SL from a local used car lot and I kept that car 10 years then sold it with a restoration attached to it. I bought the Red Rocket on Dec. 13th, 1993 the day before my birthday and still own it after 25 years. I've never owned a car this long that I actually drove almost every year because most of them became restoration projects or never were started. So I guess this makes a 113 a very practical car to own and drive.
-
Dan I agree “it makes a Pagoda very practical and a great car to drive” shall we attempt to drive all the way to Pagoda Fest 2019 along Route 66 to Chicago then Chicago to LA. to take that item off your Bucket List?
What say you?
Dieter
