At the risk of using up all my newbie questions on my first project...
Okay, at the urging of members, I am replacing the cables on the heater unit. Got the top two done as well as the right (passenger side) red one on the bottom. Just need some guidance in how to remove the lower left, which appears to be different then it's sister. I'm told that the bottom left lever has a dual purpose; t also opens and closes the heater valve.
Can anyone give me a simple step by step? Thanks.

As far as the cable goes the left side is the same as the right. The cable connects to the a lever on the bottom of the flapper. To get to it you need to remove the cowl and fresh air flap. The difference has to do with a set of linkage which comes off the top of the flapper and connects to the heater core valve.

Thanks, Jeff. I found it, along with the busted linkage arm rattling around in the cowl. This whole caper started with my wanting to replace the broken heater levers (which I did), replace the bulbs behind the levers (done), and ended up with a cable replacement job as well (almost done). To echo a few other comments on this topic, this project is a serious test of patience and manual dexterity and one that I'm hopeful will be over soon. I'm cant wait to put my dash back together and get back on the road.

Glad to help. You're right about the manual dexterity part. Wait until you take your speedo and tach out. Just did it for the fourth time and it doesn't seem to get any easier with pratice.
