Title: Bad Multifunction Switch
Post by: jharkin on September 11, 2009, 16:51:46
Naj
In thread http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=8254.0 you recommended SWF relay part no. MB A 000 542 6819 and said the relay was nearest the firewall.
In my car, a 64 230sl, i have the same problem but the relay nearest my firewall is labeled BOSCH 332 515 008, 12 v.
If the picture posts, you can see where it is placed in the car. Is this the one that should be replaced, and should i order the Bosch or the SWF?
( fyi the other relay further from the firewall is labeled BOSCH, 0 332 008 001, 12 volt - don't know what it controls)

Hello John,

From what I see your relais assembly of your 1964 car is correct. :)
Don't remember right now the Bosch and MB part number but the round one (closest to firewall) is a time switch - that has nothing to do with the column multifunction switch.

The Bosch 0332 008 001 (MB part I try to remember is no. 000 545 59 19) is responsible for the starting process (Relais für elektromagnetisches Startventil).

The one in between, attached only by one screw is the wiper relais. Naj is completely correct on this. Please see his answers in the thread above. That one - to my knowledge is only available from SWF but no longer from Bosch (what it was back in 1963).

So, replace the SWF. But how about repair? Just open is and look for the electrical connectors? Often cleaning with very fine sanding paper will improve things a lot. ;)

Good luck!

Achim
(parts & relais collector - but most of them are Bosch 0332 008 001 :()

Hello, John,

Sorry, I've been asleep  :o

As Achim says, I believe SWF/MB are the only source for the wiper relay.

Of course, VW use a relay with the same functions, but they do not have the round MB type pins.

Hello,

Many MB sedans of the era used the same relays. Pick these goodies off them before they go to the crusher!
