Did you know that MB offers a convex mirror glass replacement for the 280SL ?? Contact me if you're interested. It fits both left and right sides, and you can see so much better out of the miirrors.

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the group! (finally :))
Is a similar convex glass available for the 230 SL? This would fit all my cars with the same 'swan-neck' side view mirror.
-
Unfortunately, this is only available for the 1968 and later style mirror. Perhaps you could carefully cut one down with some good glass cutting tools.

Hello Tom,
Superb information! ;)
I have long been looking for a convex replacement for my 1971 114 and was already able to destroy two 123 replacement mirror glaces because of their tightly glued plastic back which is very hard to remove without breakage.
Unfortunately, I live in Germany. Would you mind to let me know the parts number (108 811 xx yy)? It does not make much sense to order parts in the US for me; shipment and exchange rate calculations are beyond efficiency).
Thanks a lot and greetings from (near) Frankfurt

Just sent a "PM".

Thanks Tom. Earlier today I received the set you'd sent. Super-easy to install, and the convex lens are indeed so much better than the standard flat lens. This is a good safety enhancement.

Does the replacement convex mirror have the blue tint that is on the flat mirror? My brother got me a convex mirror from a truck. I took it to a glass cutting shop; one who does stained glass. I got two good convex mirrors for the right side. Just does not have the matching blue tint.
-
Yes, they have a blue tint. MB 115 811 01 66. As of June 2009, suggested US list $18.50 and wholesale $15.00. I know there is good stock in GLC (Germany) because I just received one for a customer and the inventory was 100 or more.

Is the plastic locking ring not different for the convex glass?
