I found a copy of the International Edition here in NE Ohio for    US$ 8.25 at Border's. They have a gold Pagoda on the cover, and the buyer's guide is a decent overview. They spend a lot of coverage on rust areas to watch out for. It does take a bit of deciphering for the English terms (wings, boot bonnet etc.) but is a nice addition for the library.

I got my copy of Classic car magazine Febraury 2004. It seems this is not the first time the classic Pagoda has been in their list of best classics to buy.It is most appearent that in England this model Mercedes has a fond relationship with the British car enthusiasts and is perhaps even more famous than Sir Bond's trusty Aston Martin. Chaken not stured!

Bob

The issues seem to be:

Which classics are fun
Keep their value
Can be maintained at less than stupid cost by garage or enthusiast
Are well designed
Have some "street cred"
Not so rare as to be prohibitive to drive

Astons fall into this category, but they are generally very expensive. The cheapest one you'll see advertised is about £35k, and you'll see most Pagodas at £10k less than that

Here, there's other cars that are in that list - Mk2/E-Type Jag, Healey 3000 - but are generally considered harder to drive and less reliable as a car. Unless of course you buy a new one!

Thinking about it...

I went to the one at the NEC in November and was hardly blown away.

Actually, part of me is more interested in the convoy from the Ace Cafe!

Naj,

You still aiming for the friday at Goodwood? I can see why from the auction stuff and price/lack of crowds. I guess more people would be up for the Saturday though

Hi, Tosh,

Have booked for Goodwood for the Friday.

Also, have signed up to join the convoy from the Ace Cafe for Alex. Palace.

Do you go for the Classic Cars meets there? Second Tues of Feb I believe?

I think I will do the Saturday and sign up for the run from the Ace. After all, the Ace is only well out of my way! (not that I've ever been)

See you at the Ace! ;)

(as long as I get a day release from she who must be obeyed!) :D
