Title: whitewalls
Post by: peterm on May 22, 2009, 17:26:51
It is generally accepted that whitewalls can be shone on these cars- to that end i was able to obtain proper replacements for my 15 yo tires but Im not enamored by the look.  The patina of a 15 yo yellowing of the white wall seemed more in place with the character of the vehicle. It seems now with brilliant white whitewalls to be too much of a contrast.  Perhaps I should just dirty them up or better yet remount the tires reversed and ditch the whitewalls.  thoughts?

What brand of tire did you go with and what size?

I just went with whitewalls. As most probably know, there is not much to choose from in the original 185R14, but Uniroyal Tiger Paws are available in that size, with a narrow ww (about 1"). I had Tiger Paws on another car years ago and liked them. Havn't had them on the pagoda long enough to draw any conclusions.
Balanced, mounted, taxes etc, they were about $99 each from National Tire and Battery which I think is a division of Sears.
