While playing catch with a football (American) my son let a pass bounce off his hands and knock out the star of my grill. It was broken into two pieces. The barrel that houses the star is just fine. However, it has been impossible to find a replacement star without buying a brand new star and barrel. In my investigation of replacing my star, it seems that it's possible that I never had the original star in my grill in the first place. Is it possible for somebody to take a very close front, side and back photo of their SL star and post it so that I can compare it to my own. I certainly do not want to try to repair something that is not original. And if anybody knows of a source for JUST A STAR without the barrel too, that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.

Danny,
At one time, Bud's was selling cast-brass reproductions and I believe you could get just the star you are talking about--which would be substantially better than the pot metal casting. I would CALL them on the telephone and ask.
The parts you talk about were always sold together to the best of my knowledge as OEM parts from MB.

You're SOL. You can't just buy the star and MB will go after anyone who trys to reproduce it. All I did was use the word '' Benz '' in my comany name and it took years to get them off my back - I know how they play the game.
Yes, there was a star made in brass - a very poor copy. It was rough cast and you had to do a lot of grinding to make it right. Hardly worth the effort. Throw a rock at your car and then claim insurance.
No, really. You will have to get the whole new star. It's highly unlikely that it's anything but an original piece that was in your car.
