Title: confirmation of year model
Post by: n/a on December 21, 2003, 23:56:24
My 230 sl is registered as a 1970 model but is 1964. The registering authority requires a letter from a reliable source that this car is a 1964. The chassis no is 11304210006606. can anybody help?

I would think that the M-B Classic Center could provide an official letter that confirms the build year.

Can't remember if it's on here or Dorian's site but there's a schedule of build-dates by chassis number

Have a look for yours - or print the thing out and use a highlighter pen.

The joys of the US "model year". And....Merc no longer produced the 230SL in 1970.

Heck, if you need confirmation online, then go to:

(I thought you needed something from Mercedes.)

This might be something this club can provide, too.  You'd think this group would qualify as a reliable source for that kind of information.  An e-mail from the president or one of the vp's along with the aforementioned list of build dates might convince the registering authority.

I just received a copy of my "build sheet" today.  I sent an email to classicparts@mb.com (with year, model, and chassis number) requesting the document.  It took about 2 weeks from beginning to end.  The build sheet has a date in the lower left corner.

Happy Holidays!
