Title: Distributor Bolt
Post by: bpossel on March 25, 2009, 22:49:08
Hi All!

This is very embarrassing  :-[

Since completing my resto last year and putting 1300 miles on my rebuilt engine, I have been plagued with a slight oil drip after each drive.  I finally determined where it was coming from...  I forgot to put one bolt in the distributor housing.  Please see attached picture, missing bolt location marked with red arrow.

Can someone please give me the specs of the missing longer bolt? diameter, length, thread pitch, etc...
Also, I wonder how the engine dynamics will change when I install this missing bolt and plug the hole?
Any comments?
As always, thanks for your help!

Unless someone can define the exact bolt (length, size, thread pitch) you need, I would suggest just taking out one of the other bolts from that cover...getting the thread size/pitch and measuring how far it screws into the block, and then determining the length of bolt you need.

Thanks Naj!

This will help me to ensure that I use the proper bolt and one that does not extend into the block too far.

Also, thanks Don for your suggestion.
