Title: Finally got it!
Post by: Andres G on March 23, 2009, 21:00:14
Ok, so after much time, interestate & air-miles, and effort put into the search of my Pagoda, I was finally able to land a good deal on mine. This car belonged to an old forum member (from the Yahoo groups list) called Jim. He bought the car in Italy in 1986 and shipped it to Houston, TX the follwing year.

It is a 1967 250 SL in Medium Gray with a 4 speed manual. I had posted pictures of this car during my search and although I'd discarded it initially due to the elevated asking price considering the contidion, we were able to come to a much more accessible final number. As we were buying this car together with a friend of mine, we decided to drive from Bentonville to Dallas where we'd spend the night. On saturday we'd leave our wives there for them to enjoy on a 10 hour shopping spree (hoping they would not out-spend us) while we'd drive to Houston and bring back the car.

Here's the first picture I took, parked in front of the new Aloft Hotel in Plano, TX (I wanted to get pictures while loading it in Houston, but was so anxious to get it that I forgot to get the from my wife when leaving in the morning  :D )

There's a ton of stuff we need to get working on, as well as sorting through the very detailed information and spares (yes, Jim gave us 7 boxes with parts that had either been replaced or bought but not installed yet... like the new complete chrome set for the hardtop!) to see what needs to be done with that stuff. For now, cleaning is Job #1 as the underside of the car has more oil on it than the floos at the local Jiffy Lube!

Regards,
Andres G

Congrats! The courtship is over, now to begin the next phase of your journey.... where you discover mundane details about each other (like which side of the bed she gets, and whether the infamous doughnut seal still intact above the oil filter, etc, etc, etc...)  ;)

Nice colour (Nice picture too!) What's the interior colour? Is that an Italian side marker light I see?
I suppose the datacard will reveal all...

That's a lovely car!  I'm happy you finally found the Pagoda that's right for you.  Have fun with it, but most importantly, drive it 'til the road wears out!

Andres:

All the members of the Owners League of Italian Pagodas in America (OLIPA) welcome you and your car.

You may ask what is so distinctive about Pagodas originally sold in Italy...

In addition to all the usual Euro car features, the very unique and distinguished Round Fender Markers on the front fenders; the Let-Me-Pass flasher that works; and perhaps, best of all, a trunk sticker for tire pressure in French!

Benvenuto. Amo la sua Pagoda! Sperare che esso corre bene.*

Richard M, NYC

* Welcome. I like your Pagoda. Hope it runs well.

Thanks for the comments guys! I promise more pictures and updates. Yesterday, I worked some magic into the ashtray and put it back on the car. Next will be the rest of the chrome inside the car, and then some electrical stuff (the headlight flasher and windshield washer do not work).

Regards,
Andres

Congratulations !!
Enjoy it !!!!
I certainly know how you feel since I just got mine a month ago ... although mine is still of the Fred Flintstone variety (not the holes in the floorboards part, just the pushing it around part).

Andres:

congratulations are in order. I saw the pictured you posted of your newly acquired Italian 250SL.
Very nice . part of the road to owning one of theses cars is the chase for knowledge and parts.
I wish you a good road to travel in your quest to make her better.
