Title: Seat Belt
Post by: KUMARB on March 16, 2009, 21:06:53
Does anyone know if a universal  seat belt sold by Car Parts Wholesale will fit 280SL?  This is a three point seat belt with retractors and the price is reasonable? I am not too excited about this non-MB product.

The origianal seat belts in my car are in poor shape, fittings are rusted, and the plastic emblems on the buckles are broken. I can buy used Kangol belts on e-bay and get them rewebbed. I would really like to have retractable belts but not sure how to go about them. If I get used seat betls from a 450SL with retractors, will they fit my car? Of course, I will have to weld a fitting to bolt the retractor to. What other options do I have?

Your help will be wery much appreciated.

Can't comment on that option.

FYI - I know the belts on my car were provided by SECURON - a UK company so perhaps of less relevance to you in the US.

I have no complaints re. the SECURON belts.

Good luck

KUMARB,

1)  Send me a message offline with your email address, I'll send you the MB Factory Service Bulletin on fitting 3-pt retractables; you can then price and decide if this is something you want to do.

2)  CALL Brian Peters of Motoring Investments in San Diego, and Mark Passarelli of Rancho Merced; I believe they have done similar things to the factory with improvements and they may be able to sell you their own kit to do so.

Search this site for "Seat belts" or Kangol and you'll get many hits!
