Title: A/C parts removal
Post by: BaronYoungman on February 27, 2009, 17:08:15
So I have decided that I am never going to put the A/C system back in... as such I need to get out the pulley and Compresser... How hard is this project?  Do I need to buy any parts or is it all just taking off? Also I know there is a ton of wiring and the idle kick up switch... I figure I am best off removing these also... right?

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob,

As I recall it you will need the regular mounting bracket for the alternator(part # 130 155 00 35) and new belt(s).
When you've gotten rid of the ac bracket etc it might be a good time to replace the (now easy to get to) short water hose between the pump and the thermostat housing. My guess is, that hose hasn't been replaced in a while or ever since it implicates removing the compressor with bracket to do it.

The crankshaft and water pump pulleys are also different. The pulley groves for the A/C belts are 12.5 mm wide, the 9.5mm wide alternator belt for the non A/C cars will bottom out in the wider grooves and will squeal / slip if used on the pulleys you have now.
