Title: Valve ball pin replacement
Post by: wwheeler on February 10, 2009, 16:19:39
I need to replace some loose ball pins and have discovered that only the entire assembly with the base is available. When doing a search, there seems to be some concern about oil leakage associated with removing the ball pin base. I could remove the ball pin from the new assembly and just use that new piece in the old pin base but that doesn't seem right somehow.

Any tips and/or warnings about replacing the whole assembly? This might be good to add to the new "valve adjustment tour" in the tech manual.

Thanks as always for the help!

If you're careful, it shouldn't be a problem.  Just be very, very careful not to screw-up the threads in the aluminum head.  Be sure the threads are absolutely clean before installing.  I used thread sealer on one that I had to replace and it hasn't leaked since.
