Title: Hood torsion rod clips
Post by: pauloe on April 04, 2023, 22:36:40
What are these things that are clipped onto the torsion rod?  I have two of them.  They slide back and forth.  In pictures some cars have them, some don't.  Paul

Hi,
there are two such rubbers that have crumbled away in most cases over the years.
They should protect the hood against vibrations of the torsion rod.

More important is the rubber cushion that stops metal to metal contact between bonnet and front panel that's absent here.

Personally, I doubt that Mercedes would purposefully design an "interference hood".  I assume this contact occurs from poor hood alignment, collision damage, or similar post manufacturing change.

I wasn't aware of these parts, I'll have to check my car!

Assumption is dangerous!

Hello Stick,
are you referring to the rubber buffer (113 987 0440) that goes into the hole encircled yellow in my photo?
That buffer was only used on early 230SLs. But I am not sure how it would cushion the hood (in the open position as shown) since it is above the contact point. Is that buffer so long to fill the gap in the closed position??
This has always been a mystery to me.
Perhaps another early 230SL owner can demystify that.
