Enzo Ferrari inspecting the 230 SL?
« on: February 16, 2024, 14:50:29 »
A member approached me recently to ask about a photo I mentioned existed, of Enzo Ferrari inspecting a 230 SL. I just went through my collection of brochures and advertisements, and found this on the cover of a general Mercedes promotional brochure (covering just about everything Mercedes produced in the day including heavy equipment, trucks and so forth),
The brochure has no date, is in German and the 'part number' is 5121 863 d
I also has no photo credits and I could not find an explanation or comment on why this photo is on the cover - rather odd. Not even sure this is Mr Ferrari? I do seem to recall the car's license plate number, is it one of the early test cars?

I had tried to find this photo online before unsuccessfully but, using the license plate number, now this article came up, with the same photo, only referring to the man at the door as a 'loud dude' and the car as a 280 SL:

And here is the confirmation that it is a 230 SL, right on the Mercedes official website (well, at least the license plate is now on a 230 SL, only now it is in silver rather than red):

Surely others must know more about this photo, and/or the car and/or the story about Enzo Ferrari + the Pagoda ...

In the comments to the 'angry dude' article, one suggestion is that this Herr Karl Kling, taken from this video:

It seems we see him at around the 0.45 mark and again at 1.27 and it's not Enzo ...

Cees, if you do a google search of the picture you will find quite a few web sites that have this picture but none I could find that identify the individuals.  It doesn't look like Enzo in the pic.  Such as:
