Looking for a $ cost estimate and a source for restoring the interior of a '69 280sl, preferably in Florida?  To include dash, carpet, seat covers, door panels?

For the materials, check with GAHH in LA, Cal.  They are the high end supplier for leather or MB-Tex.  Them you will need to find a upholstery shop that can do the work.  Labor will be on the high side. $50 - 80/hour.  However, if you have the time, you can do it yourself.  I gave a talk on doing it yourself at PUD, Blacklick a few years ago.

For a complete restoration, including labor, you should be thinking $7,000-$8,000 ( 2 years ago). I need to pull my receipts but that is what I spent to replace every piece of leather in my 71 280SL.  As you can imagine, a lot of detail work required around the dash and windshield. Takes a lot of time.

Thanks 71:
I have heard numbers from $6000 to $15000, which seems like too much of a spread to me.
My thinking is that if the seats are recovered, for example, everything else will look tired by comparison, so everything should be done together ... if possible.
In what part of the country did you have your work done?

You can go to GAAH and World Upholstery websites to see their interior kits.  Mine came from World Upholstery and was beautiful.  Mine was in Leather and included the upgraded original square weave carpet.  That was $3600.   My professional installer charged $5,000 including installing the new canvas roof.  The roof was not included in the World price.  If you are really good you can do it yourself but there are a number of tricky areas like the dash against the windshield and wood.  An MB Tex kit is much less expensive.

Might want to investigate Budz Benz in Atlanta.  I sent them my convertible top frame and it came back perfect with a new top installed. It took just minutes to bolt it onto the car and it looks and operates great.  Its a 9 hour drive for you but might be worth it as they really know these cars.

I had my seats redone and now the dash panels and glove box are being reupholstered. I used budsbenz for the seat covers because the covers are supplied from GAHH but cost slightly less. The covers are beautiful. After looking at different carpet suppliers I believe that I am going to go with KHM. Their price is slightly better than others and It appears that their carpet comes with the original style rubber pad on the driver's side of the transmission tunnel as well as the black rubber grommet for the shifter. I read about KHM from this forum and I am impressed at the quality of their products. When I order my carpets for my 230sl I will order a trunk carpet for my 930.
