Title: Fixed that annoying leak.
Post by: Shvegel on October 18, 2021, 00:35:11
Before I restored my car I used to have this annoying leak that would drip water on my feet whenever I drove in the rain.  I am happy to report the leak is no longer an issue.

I probably know what you fixed to stop the leak🤣 But maybe you should tell everybody what you did🤪

My car had been “Restroyed” in 1980 by an idiot with an air chisel and a brazing torch.  He replaced the entire front end and didn’t seal between the cowl and fenders.  I could never find it until I took the brazed on fenders off and welded on new ones.

Lots of body shops used brazing before 1980. Modern cars won't respond well to brazing and MIG welders are the norm.

Dan,
On the surface I probably wouldn't have had too much of an issue with brazing per se but this guy was something else.  Not only did he leave big heat distortions in the tops of the fenders at every spot he brazed he chiseled off the front end and left the edges of the old front behind.  That made the front too forward, the doors too forward and the quarter panels forward so when he put the decklid on it was overhanging the quarter panels by 1/4".

He also sliced through both rear inner wheel wells and most of the inner structure.
