230 Ignition lock
« on: February 04, 2024, 20:06:42 »
Dear all, we bought a 230 SL. Unfortunately the ignition lock is not original anymore. Does someone have a clue where to find one? Thanks a lot.

I’d try Vintage Euro Parts.  Nelson is quite helpful and he’s in Southern California.

Welcome the Group!  Are you concerned with the originality aspect?  That is, are you trying to make original keys that match the data card codes work?

Dear all,

thanks a lot for all answers. Unfortunately our current ignition lock seems to be a very cheap version from O’Reilly Auto Parts. Therefore we are just trying to find one. I already looked at Vintage Euro Parts, but they only have the one for the 280SL on stock. Maybe I should call Nelson to find out if they might get one.

Thanks again to you all,
Nils

If you don't mind spending money, the Classic Center should be able to provide.  But, I bet you can find a used one among members here, then just get a key made somehow.

It will be interesting to see if any ignition wiring was changed to make this non-standard part work.

Hi Stick,

As long as you could ship it to the US or Germany, it would not be an issue.
I assume the price could be a topic. How much would you take and are we talking about a new one or a used one?

Thanks,
Nils

Nils,

Isn't this a great Group?  In 3 days time you have access to a NOS part and possibly a good used part as well - you have options!  Start a new thread in the Electrical sub-forum when you get on with the task of replacement so we can all follow along with your story/success.

Rodd,

It is a great forum indeed. Really appreciate to get further insights about the Pagoda. With the used ignition lock (Neiman 120) it did not work out so far. If anyone has a spare used one, please let me know.

Thanks
Nils
