Title: Steering wheel angle on lhd 280sl..
Post by: Erics on February 16, 2020, 22:33:52
Gents,

I have owned my 280sl for 7 years now. Been a long process with ups and downs but the car is now perfect.... and likely to be sold.

On Friday, i went for a drive and i noticed something that i had never noticed before: the steering wheel is resolutely tilted towards the left side when when you face it.

It’s not really parallel to the dashboard, there is a slight angle.

When you manoeuvre and turn the steering wheel lock to lock, it is smooth and there is not feeling that the wheel itself has been incorrectly attached.

Anyone cares to enlighten me?

That is correct and original.  They were slightly off set to allow access for the driver, both Left Hand and Right hand vehicles.

Thought the steering wheel angle was also to aid crumpling in an accident...

But Eric, the wheel is not square
