Brake pedal noise an annoyance
« on: January 21, 2010, 23:19:52 »
Guys,

One of the petty little things that grates with me about our car is the banging sound when the brake pedal comes back to the top of its travel - not when its under control, but if I have my foot on the brake and slip it across to the accelerator, allowing the brake pedal to spring up, when it hits the top of its travel there is a metal on metal bang, sometimes it even bounces once.

Is there meant to be a rubber buffer or stop that the pedal rests against when it is fully out?

Cheers

George,

Yes, there is a buffer.  Part Number is 113 292 00 41.

Bob,

Thanks for the quick response (and the part #). Of course I`ll now have to start doing Pilates to be able to contort myself into position to install it once I get it!

Bob,

Yes I guess I`ve gone through male menapause and come out the other side a gym junky, chardonnay sipping, coffee snob - I even went and did a barrista course the other day. To show you how bad it has become, I now driink my beer out of a glass..............

Oh, what is to become of me?

Steve,

I don`t have that luxury yet, our daughter lives at home and comes to the gym with me. What hope is there!

I say train them young to work on cars, it's lots of fun to do things together and those smaller hands can get to places that in my case a fat hand 57 year old can never reach. I have two grown boys in thier mid 20's, both can get to places I could never dream of any more without taking the whole thing apart!  (I won't go under the dash without pulling a seat, they think nothing of laying under there with the seat in. How they do it, I don't know :o)

Bob is absolutely correct that 113 292 00 41 is the stop for the brake pedal. Let me add that they are a Classic Center, Fellbach item. Woody at the Classic Center, Irvine ordered three of them last March - two for me and one for his stock. He may still have that one for sale or may have ordered additional stock but it had not previously been a stocking item for them. They are also not exactly cheap. The current US list is $27.50, my price $20.60. I have attached pictures of both a new part and what remains of a 43-year old original (the sort of orange colored debris was the buffer and that is the brake light switch).

I recently installed one that I purchased from Dave.  That is how I could quote the PN.. Thanks Dave!
fyi....  Prior to installing the OE part from Dave, I was using a rubber tire from my sons soap box car that he raced when he was a Boyscout...
The rubber tire was almost the same dimension, but I can tell you that since I replaced mine with the correct part from Dave, my pedal return is very quiet, very nice!!!
